Standing With Our Community: Support for Undocumented and Mixed-Status Families
How De Leon Tax Services Is Supporting Undocumented and Mixed-Status Families
At De Leon Tax Services, we are more than a tax preparation business. We are a family. We are also part of the community we serve.
As a Latino-owned and family-run business with Mexican roots, we know firsthand the sacrifices immigrant families make. We understand the resilience it takes to build a life in a new country. We also recognize the fear and uncertainty many people are experiencing right now. Across our communities, increased immigration enforcement and deportations are affecting families every day. These realities are not abstract to us. They are personal. They reflect the experiences of our own family, our clients, and our neighbors.
Because of this, we have spent a great deal of time reflecting and having difficult but necessary conversations. This reflection has led us to ask ourselves an important question:
How can we help in a real and tangible way?
We didn’t want to offer only a statement of support or our condolences. We wanted to take action in a meaningful and impactful way. We wanted to move beyond words and toward something tangible. We wanted to do something that could lift some of the burden off people’s shoulders. That is why we are introducing community support options. These options are specifically designed to assist undocumented individuals and families facing deportation or immigration-related hardships. This includes individuals or their partners who are dealing with detention or deportation. It includes people who are now supporting their families after suddenly losing a primary source of income. It includes students whose family stability has been disrupted because an immediate family member was detained or deported. It also includes individuals who feel afraid to seek traditional assistance because of their immigration status.
